Talking about Tracy

TracyLacy Trinkets
Here I am! My name is Tracy and I am the persona behind the name of TracyLacy Trinkets. I came up with the name “TracyLacy Trinkets” when I joined Etsy. I was a bit under pressure and didn’t have much time to think about it, but knew I needed something that could potentially be a shop name. I got TracyLacy from a pet name my Grandpa called me when I was little (or not so little!) I tacked Trinkets on the end to try and describe what I had to offer.

I grew up in the bonnie land of Scotland and moved to Australia when I was 14. Since then I have lived in the beachside town of Dodges Ferry in Tasmania. It is a huge part of my life, I am very involved in the area, I follow the local AFL team, I work just up the road, lots of my friends live here too. I also met my partner (Chris) at the local pub! Chris and I have been together for nearly 4 years and we have recently bought a house together and are comfortably settled in our happy house by the sea! We have 2 dogs – Siberian Huskies. We have Ghost who is the big brother at 3 1/2 years and we have recently added Orion to our family – he is only 12 weeks old. It has been a bit of an ordeal over the last few weeks, the process of introducing a new dog to our household has put me off having children for a little while I think! Everything is beginning to settle down now though and I think we are all going to be a happy fur-family together!

I found the wonderful world of jewellery making not that long ago and became immediately hooked. I love wearing jewellery, earrings in particular, and I love the fact that I can create them myself. When I first started I would scour all manner of sources to get ideas for things to make. I found myself quickly amassing a collection of beady bits as I found more and more things that I wanted to create. In particular I love the fact that I can take all of these individual pieces and put them together to make something that I am proud to walk down the street wearing. It has truly turned into an obsession and I find myself drawing ideas from everything I see.

Over the last couple of weeks I have been a bit side tracked, due to our new addition. I have had no time whatsoever to sit down and create anything. I am looking forward to getting back into it because I think I have been having withdrawal symptoms – it feels like so long since I even looked at my beads. I also think that I am going to have to reassess where I get on with my creating – I already have the problem of Ghost planting himself on top of everything when I decide to work on the floor (I like to do this because I can spread out all over the place – I don’t like to be restricted by space!) – I think this is going to be even more of a problem when there is a big boof of a puppy playing with and chewing everything in sight! I think it might be time to move myself to the dining table permanently!

I can create a simple pair of earrings in a relatively short time – especially if I have an idea already in my head. I have been known to make a pair to go with my outfit that I’m wearing five minutes before I am ready to go out. There are other times when I pick up my beads, play with my findings and fiddle with my wire and it takes me hours before I am even ready to decide what kind of jewellery I want to make. Usually I spend about 5 – 10 minutes deciding what sort of design I want to make and it takes a further 15 – 30 minutes to complete the piece. If I am making a particularly intricate piece – such as my ‘hearts of many colours’ bracelet which has lots of wrapped loops – it can take much longer.

I work at all times of the day if I am in the mood. Jewellery making is still a hobby for me so I do it whenever I feel like it. I am probably the most productive in the evening when I have finished all my housework or have come home from work.

If I have a particularly long moment of creativity my jewellery making can be time consuming. I have been known to sit for hours only to get up with a sore back. But it is more the fact that I get so involved in the process that makes it time consuming, rather than the time it takes to compete each piece.

My creativity is still in its early stages so I haven’t really had any really unusual creations as yet. I have had a lot of pieces that have turned out completely different than what I had imagined. Often I have outcomes that I really don’t like and they get taken apart pretty quickly.

As for secret techniques, I am still learning new techniques that are widely known to most jewellery makers, so I think it might be a while before I come up with something ‘secret’ for myself.
